
Wire Sculpture Workshop

Course Description
During this single day workshop, students will learn the basics of contour drawing and wire sculpture. Students will begin with lessons in blind contour drawing, learning how to let the eye guide the hand and navigate a subject in a single line. They will then refine these drawings into contour drawings with thought and intention, which will serve as templates for their wire sculpture. In the second half of the class, students will learn the basics of wire sculpture and transform their drawings into bas relief wire sculptures that can hang the wall.
Class Schedule:
Hours 1-2: Contour drawing
Discuss the flow through the face
Create blind contour drawings of your peers
Refine the blind drawings into intentional contour drawings
Create template for wire sculpture
Hours 3-4: Wire Sculpture
How to use your pliers
Basic bends: curves and angles
Freehand creation of a face
Transform drawing into a wire sculpture!

Duncan Sherwood-Forbes is a Los Angeles-based multimedia artist and designer specializing in linear metal sculpture and continuous line drawing. Duncan uses sinuous curving line to animate his abstract portraits and figurative work, pulling inspiration from modern and contemporary art as well as graffiti, craft, and outsider art.
