Course Description
In this Contemporary Painting workshop...It's not about quantity...but quality.
We offer a relaxed environment in which to explore your own ideas and interpretations using different materials and even the ones you are comfortable with. We don't necessarily "throw the baby out with the bath water" because even contemporary art follows principles of design, composition, rhythm and color. Students will expand their creative potential and have fun exploring the freedom in style and techniques of contemporary painting and drawing.

Dan Nguyen
Dan Nguyen is a figurative realist painter, born and raised in Vietnam. In 2020, she earned her MFA in Painting from Laguna College of Art and Design, and she now works from her studio in Ventura County, CA. Renowned for her use of color in narrative paintings, Dan’s work celebrates the beauty of individuality and close relationships. Her figures are unapologetically confident, embodying a sense of comfort in their own skin. She often refines the focal point through tighter rendering, while using broad, painterly strokes in the background to infuse energy into the piece and let her feelings flow freely. Each expressive brushstroke carries a story, honoring life’s vast diversity and encouraging authentic self-expression.
