Course Description

Have you wanted to paint the majesty of nature but where not sure where to start? This class will teach you how to capture the splendor of nature as we deconstruct the different elements of the landscape.

Learn how to paint a strong landscape by first picking a great photo reference. Understand the importance of composition as the foundation of your painting. The class will then follow the process of painting a landscape using simple shapes, mixing natural colors and understanding values to create atmosphere and distance in the landscape. Students will learn how to compose a successful painting with harmony, interest and drama. Learn about the fundamentals of composition and how to include a focal point in your painting. Students will also learn how to create atmosphere specific to landscape painting. Learn to design your paintings, not just copy a photograph. You will gain the skills needed to transport the beauty of nature into an original landscape painting.

Each student will work at their own pace from photo references with at least one completed painting at the end of the class. Ready to head outdoors? Click here to find out about our Plein Air Class.

About

Sharon Weaver

Sharon Weaver is one of the great landscape painters of America. Born with a passion for art, she first attended Moore College of Art in Philadelphia, later transferring to Parsons School. While working for more than a decade in Manhattan, Sharon's career took her all over the world. Visiting Los Angeles, Sharon found the natural beauty and wide open spaces of California a welcome change from the man-made canyons of New York. It didn't take long for her to move here where she has pursued her art of landscape painting.

Testimonial

Janice Nadelhaft

Landscape Painting Student

Although I had taken classes in life drawing and watercolors at local schools, when I decided to try oils, I felt that I needed special training. I certainly found it at Kline Academy. In the eleven years since I started with Cheryl, I’ve taken a number of different classes, in each of which I have picked up different skills from caring (and patient) teachers while enjoying the company of fellow students, some of whom have become good friends.
